One upon a time.........................................No right now there is a girl and she wants to believe in sugar and spice and everything nice . She likes to bake cakes and stare at pretty lace and sprinkle some rose water on her face.
Well so just like on a September in 2013 I decided I wanted to express my love for food, creating recipes in my kitchen , dining out at times and thus started writing from For the Love of Food today on just another day in September I have decided to write from a blog which isn't just dedicated to food.
So while my food blog is an expression of my love for making pies , tarts and quiches , cakes and pizzas and of course a lot more this is where I write about everything else that makes me happy.
So you see I was in my garden smelling the roses when I touched the stem and the thorns pricked me and then the dark clouds overshadowed the sky and I was thrown in a whirlwind.
At some point I tried to create my own sunshine and the moment I did that I slowly started coming out of that dark whirlwind.
I love my coffee strong almost bitter and I love my books especially Maupassant or say Jhumpa Lahiri or Austen and a lot of other writers and then like many girls I love pampering myself.
When I say pampering myself it means a day long skin care routine. I think the first time I picked up an eye liner was as a 14 year old.
In between I had completely given up on make up but the one thing that remained constant for me was skincare. So yes wile make up is a powerful tool it all begins with good skin.
I am mostly an au natural kind of a girl so for years I have made my own body butter and I mostly depend on my homemade remedies. Now I know that complete homemade skin care doesn't suit many people and your skin care even when its completely made from scratch should be dependent on skin type , season etc.
So here is to skin care at its natural best. I make this Body butter and use it throughout the year. During the winters I lessen the amount of hydration in it to make it more creamy.
I firmly believe the best time to apply this is right after bathing. The skin absorbs the product really well and in my case it stays hydrated for the next 24 hours / till your next bath.
I have normal to dry skin.
So here is how I make it
A weighing scale (kitchen weighing scale)
100gm Cocoa butter/shea butter
100ml of Any carrier oil (I mostly prefer almond oil but for extra dry skin I see a lot of recommendation of coconut oil. You may also use Olive oil or any oil which suits your skin)
200ml Rose water /Distill water
80ml Glycerin which can be reduced to 50ml
10 to 15 drops of essential oil of your choice (I always stick to rose essential oil)
The process is pretty simple. Chop the cocoa butter and melt it over a double boiler and then add the oil, glycerin and distill water and take it off the heat and then stir in the essential oil and mix well. Refrigerate and then whisk away to a creamy glory.
I have been using this formula from the time I was 20 years old and before that I used Body shop's body butter and I must say I would never go back to any cosmetic brand for body butter.
Do not refrigerate this formula. In the winters I usually increase the amount of glycerin and oil to make it extra creamy .
My skin stays hydrated for an entire day even when I visit the Himalayan hill stations during winter. I use the product every single day post bath all over my body and it lasts about 3 months to 4 months.
I pick up my cocoa butter from shops which sell cooking chocolate
I absolutely love Khadi's Almond Oil which comes for Rs580 for 210ml
Today picking up essential oil is pretty much easy with the options for online shopping. I pick up mine from Amazon
When I want a body lotion instead of body butter I just add more rosewater/distill water
